Karla and the girls walked up to the window and they each ordered a Coke.  Karla asked me how business was doing today, I just laughed and said: “What business?  It's pretty cold and did you have to stand in line here?”  She smiled and took a sip of her soda.  

She started to say something else, when suddenly, a long black vehicle pulled into the parking lot.  I looked at the vehicle, it was a black hearse and it seemed to have dark red interior.  I didn't know too many people who drove a hearse so I assumed maybe it was from a funeral home or something.  Boy was I wrong.  The doors swung open and a group of teenagers emerged, all dressed in Goth style clothing.  One of the girls had a long black skirt on and loads of piercings on her face and lips.  Another one, a guy, had black leather pants that looked like they had been spray painted on they were so tight.  The front doors of the hearse opened and a girl with the longest, straightest, blackest hair I'd ever seen emerged from the passenger side of the front seat.  She had black lipstick on, long fake eyelashes and black nail polish.  She only had one piercing, on her lip there was a silver ring with a tiny cross dangling from it. 

The driver's side door opened and a guy stepped out from behind the wheel.  He had a swagger about him when he walked up to the window.  He had a long, black trench coat on and black leather boots with 2 inch heels on them.  He also had what looked like eyeliner on his eyes, the most beautiful deep dark eyes I'd ever remembered seeing.  

He came to the window and said: “We were driving by I saw you standing here and decided I wanted to meet you.”  I was looking down, pretending to wipe the counter so as not to seem like I was staring.  I naturally assumed he was talking to Karla, but when I looked up, he was looking right into my eyes. I couldn't believe he was ignoring Karla and addressing the questions and his gaze at me.

 This trilogy is something I've worked on for well over two years and I'm very proud of it.  I finally finished the last episode of this book and I rather liked how it turned out.

Cheryl, a young woman who, until she met Duncan, lived a pretty dull life as a teenager in a small city in America.  She had a summer, nowhere, job, trying her best to save up money for a down payment on a car of her own.  While working the ice cream stand, and feeling bored because there were no customers that day, she just knew nothing ever happens in her small part of the world.  Seriously?  Well, well, little did she know all that boredom she had been experiencing most of her life, was about to change, and change drastically.

Cheryl has always felt over shadowed by her BFF, Karla.  Karla is beautiful and seems to have her act together.  Karla is all the things Cheryl would like to be.

Cheryl meets some new friends, one in particular, a guy named Duncan.  Cheryl cannot believe Duncan takes an interest in her instead of Karla, even with Karla standing right there.  Duncan and her new friends help Cheryl evolve into a person she never knew existed.

Together, Cheryl and her friends end up fighting off a powerful enemy, giving Cheryl more confidence than she ever knew she had inside of her.  With that enemy defeated, she and her friends can live in peace.  But, can they?  You should read the series to find out how it ends.

Watching that stinking vampire's body get swallowed up by the water gave me a feeling of satisfaction. A feeling of vengeance beyond compare. I know killing the rest would do the same. I won't rest until the job is done.

I looked around the clearing and saw a coat lying on the ground. That boy must have removed it when he decided he was going to take me on. Fool! He needed to be a much older and much more clever vampire to defeat me.

I looked through the pockets and then, I saw a paper. Reading it I thought, well, well, I don't need to track that female after all. The paper contained an address. I couldn't believe my luck. Idiots, leading me right to their door. How convenient for me.

I would go home, clean myself up and check out this address. I needed to survey the situation, that house and find out who lives there before I proceeded.

Morning, dawn breaking through the horizon. I got in the hot shower, feeling invigorated. I always felt like this after a good kill. I can almost understand how Jenkins must have felt each time he made a kill.

Resurrection of a blog

I hadn't been writing on this shared blog as much as I could have been.  We breathed new life back into it recently so I'm continuing to write here once again.

I have been steadily making progress on my third Something in the Blood book.  This is the last and final episode of what happens to the heroine, Cheryl.  There are some interesting twists and turns in the final installment and I hope my readers will enjoy them.  If I am lucky, it will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

I want to take a brief moment to thank my good friend, Suzanne, for giving me at least one interesting idea and I am  weaving it into the story line. I get ideas from news feeds, the Internet, on the street, at the mall, my wonderful husband, at the grocery store and from friends. So my followers on Facebook had better watch out, you never know when you might be giving me ideas for a story.   I love keeping alert to anything that will give me a glimmer of something interesting to place in a book.  

This last one has taken me longer to write because between my computer dying to making sure it is the most interesting ending I can write, it has been a rather long journey.  But it is, as always, an interesting and fun journey.  I want this last one to be my best yet.  

Thanks to all my readers who remain loyal and I want you all to enjoy what happens to the band of vampires of Something in the Blood, the Turning. 



Excerpt: Something in the Blood, the Turning
 I stopped packing for a moment to look at the newspaper lying on the bed.

Visiting detective found dead, three area young women missing.

A detective, who had recently been called in to assist the local police, was found this morning, dead in his car. Police said that three area young women have been reported missing as well. Authorities think there may be a connection between the incidents. Police theory says that the visiting detective had been called in to assist with solving a series of strange murders and missing people in our area. They speculate the detective may have tried to rescue the three young women, confronted the killer and was shot for his heroic efforts. That was all the police report had to offer, we hope to keep you updated as the case unfolds.

Hero indeed, I couldn't help but be irritated by that line, but the part about 'three young women reported missing' did make me feel a twinge of sadness. Sadness for my mom and for Karla's mom too. Not ever knowing where your children went or what happened to them is something they'll have to live with the rest of their lives.

Yet, here we are, here I was, packing to take a trip to move to Transylvania. I figure the police will tire of looking for us, especially with few clues to help them and no bodies to ever confirm we were dead.

We are dead, at least by human standards, but not the lie down in your grave, staying dead, kind of dead. Not in the conventional sense as humans understand death anyway.

Interview with Duncan, from Something in the Blood

Interviewer:  Tell us what it's like to be a vampire.

Duncan:  Smiling here at this question.  I can't explain that anymore than you could probably tell me what it's like to be human, I suppose.  It's just something you are, that's all.

Interviewer:   But you say you were human once.  Right?

Duncan:  Yes, but that was 350 years ago, you know, I've been a vampire so long now, it's hard to remember my human origins.

Interviewer:  Okay then, what's it like to love a human?  Can you tell us that one?

Duncan:  Sure, but this is not the first human I've ever loved.  The others didn't turn, so I outlived them, in time.  One of the perils of being immortal I suppose.  But we vampires are capable of love, even though many humans doubt that.

Interviewer:  Well, what do you say to nonbelievers?  

Duncan:  I say believe what you will.  To some we are as real as you are sitting in front of me.  To others, well, they should read the book, maybe they'll change their minds, even if it's just a little.  

Interviewer:  Is the path of true love running smooth?  

Duncan:  Hardly, there is a nemesis,  and I suppose everyone has one and I'm no different.  He's an assassin and has been pursuing my friends and I for a long, long time.  He is a force we will have to deal with, in time.

Interviewer:  Can you tell us how?

Duncan:  I'm afraid I've said too much already.  You will have to read the book.  But remember, when you invite a vampire into your home, anything can happen.  Just be aware of that.

Interviewer:  Okay, well I'm reading the book because I want see what happens.  Thanks for the interview. 

Duncan:  Anytime.
