Snowflake: name sounds like an exotic dancer

Just another pretty face?

This little kitty is not a super star, except to Steve and I, of course.  I was thinking today about the name choice, it seems obvious to us, snowflake and a white cat.  Right?  By all the looks we gather when I write about this cat, I was thinking how the name sounds like an exotic dancer.  Maybe there are a lot of cat lovers out there.  Either way, we appreciate all the views this sweet kitty pulls in.

That having been said, life with this kitty, the only child kitty, he likes to get into everything.  This morning he decided to open all the lower cupboard doors and prance around under there.  I kept shooing him out and told him I've had 2 year old toddlers who were better behaved.  If you yell at this one, he does not 'get it' he simply comes back for more.  *sigh*

He likes to come into the bedroom at night, we tried shutting the door but he yowls until he is allowed in.  Spoiled you say?  Pretty much, yes he is.  Does he come into the bedroom to sleep on the foot of our bed like a nice kitty?  Naw.  He likes to jump on our heads and I have a big plant in the window which he seems to think is a tree and likes to sit in the center.  He already broke one branch out of the center.  After all, a plant branch was no match for a 12 pound cat mistaking it for a tree.

He prowls all night and if he gets locked out of the bedroom, once we get up in the morning, he acts like we've been gone for years.  He acts so glad to see us.  Yet, in the light of day, we can leave home for hours and hours and when we get home, he lifts his head, blinks and goes back to sleep.  Go figure.

Yes, this kitty is sometimes a pain in the tush, but do we regret rescuing him?  On the contrary, we wonder just how we ever got along without his naughty little presence.

Our little ham, posing for a pic.

He never tires of posing.

A great book for kids and adults.

Snowflake and the big move

Snowflake does not like change at all.

In just two weeks we are moving to our farmhouse.  We aren't really sure just how Snowflake will view all of this.  She had kind of a traumatic start in life and she has never been a big one for change.

Whenever we move a new piece of furniture into the home, she runs and hides in the bathroom until we are done.  So when it's time to move all of the furniture out, well, she may not just hide, she may have a heart attack, not literally but an emotional one.  We shall see.

She likes to observe from high up, on my chair.

Whenever she isn't sure what is going on, mildly anyway, she climbs on the back of my office chair because it has a high back.  When I got this chair at a yard sale and moved it in, she sniffed the darn thing for several days before she would even sit in it.  These days she not only sits in it, she loves to sleep in it and climb the back.

Lovin that office chair now.

Content now, but time will tell.

We just may be trying her patience with us to the max by moving.  We aren't sure what she will think of the new place either, but we are sure she will adjust, eventually, finding herself a new window and new horizons to look at.  We have little doubt we may, during the move of all the furniture, have to place her in her kitty carrier.  That way we know she is out of the way and safely not under our feet.  Stay tuned, we will update about the big move and the big adjustment.

Tranquilizers in our future?  For us, that is, not for Snowflake.

Snowflake and the relationship

A guy who just wasn't a cat lover

Steve just wasn't a 'cat lover' or so he kept telling me.  That is, until, one day, a little sad looking kitten seemingly dropped out of the sky into our backyard.  Cold, lonely, hungry and very filthy, this little kitten fit into Steve's one had, when we first found her.

I noticed her in the backyard in June and asked Steve what in heck was that white thing in our yard?  He went to check, and declared it to be a kitten.  His first attempt to bring her in the house resulted in Snowflake not having any part of his placing her in an empty bucket for transportation purposes.  She flew, literally, from the bucket and ran into the woods.  Steve said she probably was 'gone for good.'  Later, after dark, we heard a faint 'mew' coming from our storage shed area.  Steve grabbed his flashlight and there that kitten was, cowering by the outside shed wall.  He picked her up by the scruff of the neck, saying:  "This time I got ya."  When I saw her dangling from his hand, she had a contented look on her face, as if to say: "Hey, Mom must have found me."

So she has grown, and grown, 12 ponds worth anyway.  We all discovered what love and good food can do.  She now has adopted Steve, the not a cat lover, and he has taken to her like a fish to water.

She hops on his lap, rubs her head on his leg to be picked up and comes to him for food, litter and water requests.  Not to mention the snack requests too.

I'm amazed at how much a not a cat lover, has changed and opened his heart to this sweet kitty.  Goes to show, one never knows where love is concerned.

A satisfied look after the latest snack.

She recommends this life to anyone.

She has a thing for Steve's feet.

Meeting Snowflake

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh Total trust of us now.

We wrote a book about rescuing a sweet little kitten in our backyard.  To many people, this is as bad as sharing too many kids pictures.  But, to us, she is a bundle of love and it's been a while since we have owned any pet.  So bear with us.  I also have a very good friend who also owns a cat.  I love to listen to her cat stories when on the phone.  Her cat is like a little dog and he sounds very smart and very sweet.

First night in her box, the night we found her.

We did not set out to have a pet, after all, pets were contraband, according to our landlord.  A cat is a small animal with a litter box.  How much damage can a little kitty do, compared to a dog?  We brought her in anyway because she was tired, hungry, dirty, thirsty and prey to anything larger than she was.  She had no fight left in her.  We knew we couldn't just leave her to the wild, wild, backyard and hostile woods.

Still not totally trusting us yer here.

As you can see, she went from dirty to clean.  Yes we gave her a bath in warm water and to this day, she now likes water.  Amazing.

Adopting Steve as her own

Steve was the one who brought her inside.  He carried her by the scruff of the neck just like 'Mom' would do.  We figure she associated Steve with mom now.  She still seeks him out the most.  Every morning she sits outside the bedroom door, waits for him to carry her to the kitchen and be cuddled and petted.

She has a new and bigger bed, but refuses to give up her original kitten, small bed.  She won't use the new one, even thought she has clearly outgrown the smaller one.  She does not care.

She has been a source of a lot of love and she keeps our blood pressure low just by petting her.  Known fact, pets lower stress levels.

If you love cats, or just animals in general, we hope you will recommend the book about Snowflake.  A nice book especially for kids about not abandoning any animals.  About being kind and sharing our planet with all creatures.

Thanks for reading this.
